LSFL was started in 1993 with two main goals: to instill a love of reading in children and to encourage literacy through one-on-one tutoring.
LSFL volunteers are all Laurier Brantford students, mostly deriving from the Concurrent Education program. Volunteers participate in their program of choice (Book Buddy, Homework Help Centre, and All Star Reading) through weekly sessions that encourage and promote literacy skills. All programs are offered to students, or youth in the Brantford area.
LSFL also prides itself in offering family-oriented special events to the public.
